Tyseley Energy Park partners with Envantage to plan its low-carbon future

Published

Tyseley Energy Park (TEP), home to the recently opened Birmingham Energy Innovation Centre, has announced an exciting new partnership with Envantage to reduce its emissions and further contribute to Birmingham’s net zero vision.

Envantage will work with TEP, which is part of the Webster & Horsfall Group, to help establish its current carbon footprint by looking at its entire Greenhouse Gas profile, including both direct and indirect emissions.

From this, TEP will put in place a strategy to further reduce its carbon emissions and support its mission to transform clean energy innovation in Birmingham and the West Midlands by turning new technologies into commercially viable energy systems.

Jessica Harris, Head of Carbon Services at Envantage comments:

“Tyseley Energy Park is already a real success story in diversification, where Webster & Horsfall Group has transformed this site into a nationally-recognised hub for zero carbon innovation. Today it is home to a wide range of growing cleantech businesses including a 10MW on-site biomass plant and the Birmingham Energy Innovation Centre and the Tyseley Refuelling Hub.

“Our work will provide the site with the full picture of its carbon emissions as part of its journey to net zero. Too often the focus is on Scope 1 and 2 emissions, which are direct and power-related i.e. those emissions that occur within the company’s ‘walls’. However, for most organisations, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Getting an accurate picture of an organisation’s Scope 3 emissions – which include the indirect emissions that occur throughout the value chain – is the key to unlocking a more sustainable future.”

TEP has a rich 300-year industrial heritage and has evolved from a traditional manufacturing site to a leading cleantech and low-carbon hub, as David Horsfall, Director at Tyseley Energy Park, adds:

“TEP is located on one of the UK’s oldest manufacturing sites and has a proud history in industrial innovation. Today, alongside the modern Webster & Horsfall facilities, it has evolved into one of the most dynamic hubs, creating solutions to drive carbon reduction across: heat, transport, recycling and energy systems.

“That is why it was important to us to gain a clear picture of our current carbon impact, so we can better understand the steps we can take to work with our tenants, partners and stakeholders and put in place a plan to reduce our emissions further.

“We look forward to working with the specialist team at Envantage to continue our commitment to supporting Birmingham and the West Midlands’ net zero vision.”
